Howl’s Canada Day Spectacular
July 1, 2004
2:00 – 6:30 pm central time
It’s Canada Day, up Canada way and the timing was right for
a celebration. A celebration, of course, of the greatest
nation on the planet, but also a celebration of some of the
greatest music ever made. I’m indeed a proud Canadian, so
perhaps I’m a little biased, but the truth remains that my
favourite music of all tends to come from this country. No
other country can boast such an impressive lineup of artists
that I love dearly. So, what better way to celebrate Canada
Day than by playing hours and hours of great Canadian music.
It was also a perfect time for a little bit of nostalgic
reflection, as I celebrated my 3rd anniversary as a show
host on UMFM (for trivia buffs, I had been a behind the
scenes board operator for a few months before that). On July
2nd, 2001, I hosted the first of Desmond Howl’s Canada Day
Spectaculars. As if that weren’t reason enough for a little
look back at the past, I officially went “over the hill”
this week, and turned 30. Yippee.
